Questions to take into the work

How should I analyse an architectural precedent?

Start with the site, programme, credited authors and date, then compare approach, plan, section and material decisions. Select cases that answer the same design question. A striking form can begin the enquiry, but useful comparison needs the conditions and choices behind it.

How can project photographs and original sources be used responsibly?

Follow the project record to its original architect or owner documentation, and check each photograph’s creator and licence. A design credit is not a photography licence. Keep captions, dates and reuse conditions attached to the material, and distinguish a source-linked reference from a fully illustrated GAD study.
