GAD / PERSON PROFILE
Zaha Hadid
A legacy of spatial invention, from experimental drawings to public buildings.
Background & practice
Hadid (1950–2016) studied mathematics in Beirut and architecture at London’s Architectural Association. After working with OMA, she established her own practice. Painting and drawing were important tools in the development of her architectural ideas.
How to read the work
Intersecting routes and shifting geometries challenge the building as a static object. At MAXXI, circulation and exhibition space are conceived as a connected spatial field.
Professional recognition
2004 Pritzker Architecture Prize laureate.
MAXXI names Hadid as its architect. Later office projects require their own authorship checks.
