Banyan Tree Nanxi River

The project

This hotel proposal interprets the art of Chinese garden-making within the steep terrain of the Nanxi River valley. Rather than enlarging the footprint, the design works vertically, preserving existing trees and boulders and setting parts of the buildings into the hillside. Paths, framed views and references to local village pavilions create a sequence of places within a compact mountain site. Published images show the architectural proposal.
