Square metres and square feet converter

A working calculator, a clear formula and examples you can check.

How it works

Area conversions square the length conversion factor. One international foot is 0.3048 metres, so one square foot is exactly 0.09290304 square metres. Divide square metres by 0.09290304 to obtain square feet; multiply square feet by that value for the reverse direction.

Worked example

A 100 m² apartment has an area of approximately 1,076.391 ft². A 1,000 ft² space converts to 92.90304 m². Keep extra precision during a calculation, then round at the reporting stage to match the accuracy of the measurements.

Before using the result

Unit conversion preserves the definition of the input area. It does not turn net usable area into gross floor area, or reconcile different leasing and survey conventions. Confirm what a published floor area includes before comparing projects across countries.
