Background & practice
Yvonne Farrell met Shelley McNamara while studying architecture at University College Dublin. They began teaching there after graduation and, with three colleagues, established Grafton Architects in 1978. The practice's name follows its original street rather than an individual founder. Their work includes housing, schools, university buildings and public offices, bringing teaching and architectural practice into a continuing exchange. They shared the 2020 Pritzker Architecture Prize.
