Roger Walker's early work became closely associated with Wellington in the 1960s and 1970s. The NZIA's 2016 Gold Medal citation describes houses and other buildings composed from playful combinations of towers, cylinders, cubes and varied roof forms. His early Wellington Club commission was undertaken at Calder Fowler & Styles. The citation presents a career driven by experimentation and a willingness to challenge the architectural expectations of its time.
