Background & practice
Richard Naish leads RTA Studio, whose early commercial work drew solutions from constrained sites, modest budgets and existing buildings. The NZIA's 2026 Gold Medal citation traces an expanding practice concerned with housing affordability, changing educational needs and mass timber construction. It discusses Ironbank as part of that development. Naish's work is presented as architectural problem-solving that becomes more ambitious as commissions increase in scale and complexity.
