Where it fits
Early multifamily or office studies where a plausible envelope still needs testing against internal organization.
What goes in
A massing model, building type and structural material provide architectural context.
What comes out
Alternative floor-plan layouts to inspect within the conceptual design environment.
How to read the capability
Autodesk describes the June launch as an invitation to experiment and provide feedback. Its September announcement discusses comparing multifamily options against a client’s unit mix. Keep the experiment tied to one measurable design question, such as whether a narrower block can retain the required mix.
Limits to keep in view
An experimental plan is not a coordinated permit design. Do not infer a general release from a conference announcement. GAD has not tested layout validity, account access or transfer into a production BIM model.
A practical evaluation checklist
Use one known envelope; compare usable depth, core position and circulation against your team’s hand-developed baseline.
Change the unit mix once. Record which requirements remain satisfied and which need manual repair.
Keep rejected alternatives and reasons, so option count never substitutes for design quality.
